Special Olympics Michigan Area 19
To provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic type sports for children and adults with Intellectual Disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
Description:
Our goal is to help persons with disabilities participate as productive and respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public's awareness of their capabilities and needs.
History:
Special Olympic Michigan provides sports training and athletic competitions at no cost to athletes or their families for the 600 registered athletes in Area 19. Area 19 encompasses all of Jackson and Calhoun counties.
