BCMAMS (Battle Creek Metropolitan Area Moustache Society)
Mission: The BCMAMS strive to promote a diverse combination of events in Battle Creek, encouraging local participation, fund raising for local charities, and, thus build a better community for all residents.
Description:
We are a group of young philanthropists, called the Battle Creek Metropolitan Area Moustache Society. We will stage fundraising events throughout the year for different local charities.
History:
We started this group after growing our moustaches for a member's birthday party. We decided that we could ban together and create some fun, unique, and quirky events in Battle Creek. In April 2008, we had our first collective meeting of the Joint Chiefs of Stache. There we decided on our first fund raising series: Summer of the Stache. We raised $16,000 for the Charitable Union through disc golf, dart, and card tournaments, a pub crawl, a Stache Bash at Arcadia Brewing Company, and T-shirt sales all summer long. In Fall 2008, we worked with Getaway Sports and raised $700 in a day of disc golfing. These funds went directly to building a new course at Fort Custer. This winter we sold sweatshirts and raised money for resources for a foreign language class. FebruHairy 2009 is our month long fund raiser for the Leila Arboretum Society. We are holding Thursday night Hairyoke (karaoke) and Air guitar contests at Gary Fields. Then on 2/21, the first annual FebruHairy Festivus will be held at Leila Arboretum. It will be comprised of a Team Cardboard sled competition, a Chili Cook Off, an ugly sweater contest, a snowball fight, and snow sculpture judging.
