Vita Program
The Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program is designed to to assist low and moderate income people through free tax preparation services, while promoting awareness of of the Earned Income Tax Credit and other tax credits that brings money back to working families and the community.
Description:
We are a non-profit volunteer program that runs almost entirely on volunteer assistance. VITA welcomes volunteers of different levels of experience and aptitude. The program provides IRS backed training to those who wish to be tax preparers, site coordinators or quality control personal. We also need greeters and people handling intake forms / phones as well as interpreters and other positions. We have five locations that are set up to assist the communities of; Barry, Branch, St. Joseph, and Calhoun. Our program's home office is located at the Community Action Agency's Battle Creek location. We have helped many low-income families receive tax credits they did not know they qualified for, giving them that extra financial help so that they are able to better their quality of life.
History:
This is the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program's fifth year in operation. The program has been steadily expanding and is adding sites as we expand our coverage to more neighborhoods throughout Calhoun County. This program is trying very hard to reach more and more tax filers every year.
