The mission and vision of Gracious Homes, Inc. is to provide a safe conducive and supportive environment for the homeless, and recovering substance abuse individuals through long term residential placement and supervised treatment with positive social, mental and emotional support. The vision is to revolutionize the lives of individuals through assistance programs, provide long term residential opportunities, collaborate with other organizations that promote innovation and preparation for change; thereby, enabling individuals to complete a successful transition from co-dependency to self-sufficiency.

Description:
Gracious Homes, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)3 organization whose mission is committed to providing long-term residential placement in an environment that fosters and sustains self-sufficiency for individuals who are homeless and recovering from addictive behaviors. Our first home, Grace's Place, is currently a six bed facility for non-custodial women that provides a range of high quality services to help them successfully overcome their struggles in achieving sustainable housing, employment, and a greater sense of self worth.

History:
Gracious Homes, Inc. was founded by Grace Cowens, Executive Director, in August 2003. Grace, former Detention Supervisor for Battle Creek Public School, knew that she had to do something to help the children in her room. So many of them were parent-less. "A significant percent of the children were affected by substance abuse, domestic violence and homelessness issues. I felt like the best way to help the children was to help their parents," said Cowens.
Gracious Homes, Inc. opened its first facility "Grace's Place" in April 2004 and has helped assist over 250 women in the first two years of it existence, though residential placement and comprehensive support services.
