The American Diabetes Association Battle Creek Committee will present its 1st Annual "RAZZLE" Holiday Benefit on Friday, December 4 to raise much needed dollars for diabetes research and awareness programs. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. The fund raiser, which will be held in the Minges Creek Athletic Club banquet hall (21 Minges Creek Place), begins at 6:30pm with a silent auction, beer, wine and non alcoholic beverages. Dinner and a special dance showcase with performers from Battle Creek and Kalamazoo begins at 7pm. Many local businesses have donated gifts for the auction and raffle....a convenient way for event attendees to purchase some inexpensive gifts with the holidays quickly approaching!
The dance showcase will feature Art and Jill Downey, owners/instructors of Kalamazoo DanceSport and several of their advanced students. Several of the numbers include a tango, nightclub two step, hula and a 60s group performance. Nanci Regni and Alice Warner will perform. Other highlights include a lyrical performance by instructors from Shari Rarick School of Dance (Jodi Jones, Kim Messenger and Megan Johnson). Also included will be a belly dance performance by Karin Ries. Bobby Guy of WIN 98.5 will emcee the program and activities for the event. The ADA Battle Creek Planning Committee works on events throughout the year to raise funds and awareness about the growing problem of diabetes in Calhoun County and across the country. The "Step Out Walk" to Fight Diabetes held at Binder Park Zoo on October 3 raised $33,000 for the cause. Board members include: Carol Barr, Deb Calkins, Eric Campbell, Julie Higgs, Sara Hutcheson, Sylvia Parmelee, Becky Rocho, Linda Spann, Sharon Waltman and Sarah Yanez; ADA Associate Manager SW Michigan. The board encourages the community to support this 1st "RAZZLE" event and in doing so, this will help with diabetes awareness and funding critical research. Tickets are available by contacting Sarah Yanez (616 502 7610), Deb Calkins (282 0063) or Linda Spann at Minges Creek Athletic Club (979 1111). This event will include adults only. The mission of the American Diabetes Association is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by the disease.
