Healthy Babies Top the Bottom Line in Kalamazoo

March of Dimes Fights for Healthy Babies

(Battle Creek, MI) —In challenging economic times, the work of non-profit organizations plays an even more important role in helping people maintain their health and get the services they need.
On April 18 at Battle Creek Health System, families and businesses throughout Greater Battle Creek will join together in March for Babies to support the March of Dimes work of helping moms have full-term pregnancies and babies begin healthy lives.
The top family teams of 2008, along with businesses such as AT&T, Flagstar Bank, Koyo, and Musashi are turning out in force so that one day all babies will be born healthy, thanks to efforts like these, funded by the March of Dimes.
"March for Babies is an event my children look forward to all year," said Kelly Ball, March for Babies volunteer and March of Dimes board member. "It's an enjoyable way to teach my children about the importance of helping others. This event is dedicated to the most important members of our community, our children."
The most urgent infant health problem in the U.S. today is premature birth. It affects more than half a million babies each year, with the number growing every day. Babies born too soon are more likely to die or have disabilities. The March of Dimes is committed to reducing this toll by funding research to find the answers to premature birth and providing comfort and information to families who are affected.
"Participating in March for Babies is an important way to support the cause of healthy babies," said Dana DeLuca, Division Director. "Whether you walk to celebrate a baby in your life or to honor one who did not survive, together we can work to prevent premature birth and other infant health problems and look forward to a day when every baby is born healthy and strong."
In 2009 national March for Babies sponsors are Kmart, the March of Dimes number one corporate supporter, CIGNA, Continental Airlines, Famous Footwear, Farmers Insurance Group of Companies, FedEx, First Response, Liberty Tax Services, Mead Johnson Nutrition and Ther-Rx.
In Battle Creek, March for Babies is sponsored by AT&T, Battle Creek Health System, Best Way Disposal, Flagstar Bank, Kohls and Omni Credit Union.
To join in, visit marchforbabies.org, or call toll-free (800) 525-9255 to sign up as an individual, to start a corporate, family or friends team, or donate to help babies be born healthy. Participants can also pick up sponsor forms at Kmart.
The March of Dimes is the leading non-profit organization for pregnancy and baby health.  With chapters nationwide and its premier event, March for Babies, the March of Dimes works to improve the health of babies by preventing birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.
