SUN Center
The Mission of the College of Eastern Utah SUN Involvement Center is to: Empower students, faculty and community members to become a part of the solution to the needs of our community.
Description:
We teach committed, life-long , active citizens through service. Inspire and enhance the effectiveness of volunteerism. Support community agencies and leaders in service oriented endeavors. Identify specific needs and solutions. Advocate and facilitate service as apart of the learning process through the Service-Learning Program.
History:
The SUN Center was established in May of 1993 with the goal to train student leaders who work with community partners to fill needs and become a beneficial part of the area where they have chosen to attend school. Last year the SUN Center had a total monetary amount of service to Price/Carbon and Eastern Utah area of $221,774.50 with 10,833 hours of service 1,732 voluntteers, 269 projects, and also raising $3,085.00 for the Carbon County Food Bank. SUN Center project range from New Born's in Need to elderly issues, along with hunger, homelessness, children's, animal, strengthening families, disabilities and education issues. During Spring Breaks a group of students give up their break to give a week of service to the elderly and disabled on the Navajo Reservation.
