Agency Details:
St. Francis Community Kitchen
St. Francis Community Kitchen provides a place for any community member of Sutherlin and the surrounding communities to have, twice a week, a free full course hot meal. It is the intent of the St. Francis Community Kitchen to serve our neighbors in an atmosphere of christian community and fellowship, fostering family unity, dignity, and self-esteem.
Description:
We provide twice a week on Monday and Wednesday evenings from 4:30pm to 5:30 pm a free full course hot meal. Volunteers are needed to help in preparation of the food, serving the guest, dishwasher and clean up helpers. Most volunteers only have to serve once or twice a month. Some serve more often because of the enjoyment they receive from helping others. We are in need of volunteers who could come in and help clean up after the meal is served. This usually takes only about 30 minutes to clean up.
History:
We started serving meals on March 30, 2004, serving one meal a week. Starting in January of 2005 we went to serving meals on Monday and Wednesday evenings. As of January 1, 2009 we have served over 30,000 meals. We still continue to serve to those who are homebound. We have on average about 35 to 40 volunteers who help out in various ways. Our volunteers come from the surrounding communities, different churches, and civic organizations.
