4-H Of Iron County

4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills. Participating youth, from grades 3-12, and adult volunteers and leaders “learn by doing” through opportunities in which they gain a sense of belonging within a positive group, cultivate independence with guidance from caring adults and peers, and master life challenges.

4-H Is...
• Learning by doing, and is available to all boys and girls in the 3rd through 12th grades, from
urban, suburban and rural areas. 4-H uses projects to teach youth important life skills.
• A fun-filled, action oriented educational program for youth and volunteer leaders sponsored by
our Land Grant University, Utah State University Cooperative Extension Service.

Some of the new areas that Utah 4-H is leading the nation in includes:
Youth and Families with Promise (YFP) Program - designed to address youth problems through early intervention with at-risk-youth, ages 10-14, and their families. YFP is a mentoring program designed to reduce and prevent delinquent behavior.
Global Position Systems (GPS) - HAM Radio –
ATV Safety – After school Programs – Military 4-H - Continuing project areas are Robotics - Cooking - Sewing - Livestock - Agriculture - Expressive Arts - and more!

History:
Utah had 98,269 youth participate in 4-H last year – 2006.
We had more than 7,050 4-H volunteer leaders last year in Utah.
National, we have over eight million 4-H members.
