Welcome to the Volunteer Center of Iron County

The Volunteer Center of Iron County mobilizes people and resources to deliver creative solutions to community problems.

To achieve this vision, the Volunteer Center offers programs and services that:

  • Connect people with opportunities to serve.
  • Build the capacity for effective local volunteering.
  • Promote volunteering.
  • Participate in strategic initiatives that mobilize volunteers to meet local needs.

The Volunteer Center of Iron County offers three Senior Corps programs to include the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP), Foster Grandparent Program (FGP), and Senior Volunteer Program (SCP) and a Youth Corps program, the Youth Volunteer Corps (YVC).

RSVP invites adult’s age 55 and better to use their skills and experience to tackle some of the biggest problems in their communities. They help police protect their neighbors, mentor and tutor young people, volunteer countless hours at local hospitals and clinics, and give their time to many other activities. RSVP challenges older Americans to answer the call of their neighbors and help solve serious problems in their communities.
FGP invites healthy older adults (age 60 or better) to help children with special needs at schools, hospitals, drug treatment centers, and other locations. Whether tutoring younger students, nurturing sick children, or counseling older kids, Foster Grandparents even the odds for young people who are struggling. Foster Grandparents change children's lives by giving them the attention they need.
SCP invites healthy older adults (age 60 or better) to help other adults continue to live independently and/or provide friendly visits to older adults in assisted living facilities. FGP (also for 60 or better) are the individuals that children in need depend on for love, wisdom and support. They help children learn to read, care for children with disabilities, and offer counseling to those in need of it.
The Youth Volunteer Corps of Iron County (YVC) provides opportunities to serve if you are between the ages of 11-18. These opportunities involve anything from being a member of our Youth City Council, tutoring, assisting in anti-tobacco programs for elementary students, and more. It is a great way serve while gaining skills for the future.

VCOIC also offers volunteer opportunities to all ages throughout the year in such areas as Community Events, National Service Days, etc. Cedar City is known at the Festival City because of the Utah Shakespearean Festival where there are numerous volunteer opportunities. Cedar City is also host to the Utah Summer Games which depends on 900 to 1000 volunteers to run the games in a three week period in June each year.

It seems there is almost always something going on in Cedar City whether it be an Electric Light Parade, a Storybook Cavalcade Parade, the Children’s Christmas Festival, the Sheep Festival, rodeos, street festivals, Renaissance Fairs, or Rock Crawling events. There are plenty of opportunities, so GET INVOLVED!
