Youth Volunteer Corps Of Washington County
Our mission is to encourage youth to because more actively involved in the community through service learning.
Description:
We have several different project that we undertake. We sponsor Summer of Service, Washington County Youth Court, Reading Rocks, Anti-tobacco programs, community events, and youth summits to reach out to all youth of from all walks of life to develop a love of service, of community, of others, and of self. Service should be something more then kids picking up trash from the side of the road. Youth should have a say on planning, organizing, and learning. Youth should also be recognized for their contribution to society. The Youth Volunteer Corps of Washington County consists of several team leaders (who are Americorps members) serving with different agencies in different locations throughout the county. In the end, it does not matter if youth serve on the Youth Court panel, volunteer at the library, tutor, or is involved in anti-tobacco programs as long as youth discover that they can make a difference in Washington County.
History:
First launched in 1987, the cost-effective YVC model has since been established in communities nationwide. Our program in Washington County is sponsored locally by the Volunteer Center of Washington County. We have been around for several years now feel extremely fortunate to be able to continue to serve youth.
