The Caring Place, Inc.

Mission: To enrich the lives of older adults, provide them with supportive health and social services and give respite care and assistance to families and caregivers. The Caring Place emphasizes stimulating, life-enhancing activity and sociability. Individual abilities and interests are an important consideration in daily programming.
The Caring Place also coordinates a Meals-On-Wheels Program in collaboration with Waukesha Memorial Hospital so that home-bound elders, or handicapped individuals can receive nutritious meals delivered to them in their homes.These meals are tailored to their individual dietary needs, and can be ordered for short-term or long-term periods of time for people needing assistance following hospitalization, or for health and safety reasons.

Description:
The Caring Place adult day center is located in downtown Waukesha and has been operating since 1988. The Caring Place is open Monday through Friday, 7:00a.m. to 5:30p.m. The program services adults 50 years of age and older with physical disabilities and/or moderate mental impairments. The Caring Place is a non-profit corporation, certified by the State of Wisconsin and managed by a Board of Directors. It is one of 41 United Way agencies in Waukesha County.

History:
Meals-On-Wheels was first started in 1971 by the Deacons of the First Presbyterian Church in Waukesha. The Caring Place Adult Day Center opened in 1988, when the congregation of the First Presbyterian Church saw a need for respite care for their elder family members and friends. In 1992, The Caring Place assumed responsibility for the Meals-On-Wheels Program and both programs continue to provide for the social and nutritional needs of many elders, and handicapped individuals in the Waukesha area.
