Our mission is: to provide job training and employment opportunities for adults with disabilities. The Waukesha Training Center, Inc (WTC), established in 1963, was planned and financed by the Waukesha Service Club. Underlying all that takes place at the WTC is the opportunity for people to lead productive lives through the experience of work. The Center is a place where commitment to excellence supports opportunity and achievement.
Description:
The emphasis is on learning transferable work skills that effectively address the demands of the world of work. The ultimate purpose of our programs and services are to support individuals in overcoming vocational barriers that exist due to their disabling condition(s). Our primary programs/services include: • Vocational Evaluation - Provides a comprehensive assessment of an individual’s vocational strengths, abilities, learning style and interests. • Training - Assists workers with researching their maximum vocational potential. • Life Enhancement Opportunities Program – Provides participants with a continuum of quality pre-vocational and vocational opportunities designed to meet their individual needs and interests. • Job Placement Services - Assists workers with obtaining and maintaining employment. • Contract Sales - Provides the necessary work opportunities to train workers while helping sustain the agency economically. • Protect the Planet Recycling Services – Provides commercial recycling services that compliment the existing Waukesha County-sponsored domestic recycling initiatives. • Grimebusters Cleaning Services - Offers trained and supervised work crew who provide a cleaning program designed to meet the specific needs and environment of each customer. • Baker’s Apprentice Food Service – Prepares individuals for careers in the food service industry. • Commercial Lawn Maintenance - Offers services in the area of grass mowing, trimming and general property maintenance to businesses on a contractual basis. • Shipping and Receiving - Offers workers the opportunity to develop skills through use of the specialized equipment and electric power tools. • Innovative Program - Serves workers who are physically disabled and require assistance with numerous personal cares.
History:
The Center started with 10 workers in 2,000 square feet of training space and a $5,000.00 annual budget. Over the past 44 years we have grown and currently serve 386 workers each day in 100,000 square feet of training space through a $3.8 million dollar budget.
