NAMI Waukesha's vision is to erase the stigma, guilt, shame, fear, ignorance, and discrimination that negatively impact the lives of people affected by mental illness. Our mission is to strive not only to provide services to individuals and families dealing with mental illness, but to enlighten the public and share the hope of recovery.

Description:
NAMI Waukesha works to improve the lives of people living with mental illness and their families by providing the following services free of charge:

Courtroom Support - for families experiencing commitment and criminal proceedings involving mental illness.

Support Groups - that meet monthly and provide a place to share concerns and gain strength from others who have experienced the challenge of mental illness.

Family-to-Family - A 12 week course for families of individuals with severe brain disorders, taught by trained family members.

Peer-to-Peer - A 9 week course for consumers taught by trained consumers.

Resource Guides - Information for people with mental illness about services provided by Waukesha County to families and individuals.

Lending Library - Books, Videos and audio tapes

In Our Own Voice: Living with Mental Illness - a recovery education presentation given by trained consumer presenters for other consumers, family members, friends, professionals and lay audiences.

One-on-One - support and referrals

History:
Founded in 1979, The National Alliance on Mental Illness is a grass roots organization that has affiliates in every state and in more than 1,100 local communities across the country. NAMI Waukesha was established in 1982 to protect the rights and to promote welfare, comfort and happiness of people with mental illness and their families.
