Wheelchair Recycling Program
The mission of the Wheelchair Recycling Program (WRP) is to provide increased mobility and enhanced quality of life for people in Wisconsin who need durable medical equipment but who do not have the insurance or personal funds to acquire it on their own.
Description:
Durable medical equipment is donated to WRP and rehabbed through collaboration with the Wisconsin State Prison System. Badger State Industries prisoners are provided an opportunity through job skill training and work program to develop skills that will aid them upon release. They in turn provide quality rehabbed equipment that promotes independence and quality of life for persons who are elderly and/or disabled. These devices are safe and in working condition and are provided at a lower cost than new equipment and/or through sponsorship at no charge to an individual or family member if no financial resources are available.
History:
Since its incorporation in 1998, WRP has provided refurbished wheelchairs and other adaptive equipment to thousands of individuals around the state. Many of those we serve cannot afford the basic equipment they need to be mobile, and thus participate as active members of their communities. This donated yet functional equipment is safe and in working condition and is provided at low to no cost to individuals who can not afford to purchase new equipment. The equipment includes manual and power wheelchairs, scooters, walkers, crutches, ramps, bath chairs/stools, hospital beds, chair lifts, van lifts, raised toilet seats, grab bars, and more. WRP has two office locations, one in Brookfield and one in Madison.
