Recycle-a-Bike promotes bicycling as a safe, fun, sustainable, and empowering mode of transportation. We provide the greater Providence community access to the skills and resources to maintain, repair, and build bikes in a workspace where all are welcome.

Description:
We are Volunteer based and rely on the many talents of our volunteers to keep the organization running. Or volunteer structure is differentiated by time commitment: Coordinators, Committed Volunteers, and General Volunteers. Whatever your interest and availability, there is a place for you! To keep it organized, we have 4 committees that oversee the various parts of RAB
Programs: What we do and how we do it
Shop: What we have, what we need, and how we organize it
Communications: How we tell people about what we do, get people excited about bikes and get new people interested in RAB
FUNds: How we pay for what we do

All committees need people.

  • Artistic/Graphic skills: advertising, fliers, and surveys, as well as computer/web skills.
  • Communicating, Personal Relations, and Recruiting.
  • Bike Liaisons = biking around and being seen
  • Mechanics and wrenching skills to provide for our Open shop and programs
  • Teaching skills to work with mechanics
  • Funding opportunities and advising for our new space and paying coordinators with stipends.
  • Keeping records and up to date info on volunteers and income.
  • Visionaries: seeking our involvement in the community
  • Community networkers
  • Event planners and organizers

  • History:
We have been at the Steel Yard since 2001. Fall 2009, we have now developed our bylaws and are continuing momentum to become a more present advocacy group in the Providence area, and working in a collective, cooperative structure. Our Parts and bikes are donated by the police, local universities, and private donors.
