Agency Details:
Learn To Earn- Providence And Warwick Skills Centers
The Warwick and Providence Skills Center are part of a U.S. Dept. of Labor initiative to expand the region's service sector workforce. We recruit high school drop outs, get them a GED and then get them a job with our member employers.
Description:
The centers will serve as sites for piloting new skills training programs, post secondary education and career planning. Funding comes from the Department of Labor, Rhode Island Department of Education, Providence School Department and both Rhode Island Workforce Investment Boards. An aggressive GED and Job Readiness training program have established Learn To Earn as Rhode Island's leader in education, training and employment. 40% of Rhode Island's GEDs will be awarded to Learn To Earn students this year.
History:
CCAP, and other community action agencies, was created through President Johnson's 1964 War on Poverty and the Office of Economic Opportunity. Our programs are strictly for low income participants. Our annual budget is quickly approaching 3 million dollars. We currently manage programs all over the state of Rhode Island.
