Tri-Town Community Action Agency

The overall mission of the Agency is toward enabling the low income to become self-sufficient and promoting institutional sensitivity and responsiveness to their needs.

The Agency's Mission Statement is: "We are a community-based, multi-purpose organization committed to providing quality, comprehensive social and advocacy services to individuals and families in need while promoting their self-sufficiency."

Description:
The Tri-Town Community Action Agency was created to assist low-income and disadvantaged community residents to become socially and economically self-sufficient. Tri-Town services families through the provision of the following programs:

Employment and Training; Job Placement and Retention; Elder Care Management; Mental Health Counseling; Substance Abuse Counseling; Teen Pregnancy and Parenting; Case Management; Fuel Assistance; Appliance Management; Housing Assistance; Commodities Distribution; New Opportunity Homes; Drop-Out Recovery; Adult Classroom Training; Welfare to Work; Health Center; WIC; Head Start; School-Age Childcare; Substance Abuse Prevention; Even Start Family Literacy; Parent Education; Weatherization; Emergency Boiler Repair; Emergency Food Assistance; Furniture Bank Referral; GED, ESoL, ABE Instruction; Juvenile Justice Hearing Board; Information, Counseling and Referral, Energy Conservation Counseling; Victims of Crime Advocacy

History:
The Tri-Town Community Action Agency was established in 1964 with the passage of the Economic Opportunity Act, under President's Johnson's "War on Poverty". Although the Tri-Town Community Action Agency originally served three towns, the Agency expanded to serve the following cities/towns:

Johnston
North Providence
Smithfield
North Smithfield
Burrillville
Glocester
Cranston (limited to Fuel Assistance, Weatherization, Appliance Management, Emergency Boiler Repair and Elder Case Management)
Scituate
Foster
Lincoln, Cumberland and Woonsocket (Elder Case Management)
