PawsWatch Cat Rescue is an all-volunteer non-profit organization dedicated to helping homeless cats in RI and southeastern MA.
Description:
PawsWatch advocates compassion towards homeless animals and spay-neuter to control overpopulation. Volunteers catch homeless cats in humane traps, take them to the vet for exams, vaccinations, treatment of injuries, and spay-neuter surgery. Young kittens are placed into foster homes where they get lots of attention so they become socialized and can be adopted into good permanent homes. Tame homeless cats who were abandoned are also placed into foster homes (if they are available) until they are adopted. Feral cats (the very shy, scared homeless cats) are unable to adapt to living indoors with people, so they are returned to their home community where they feel comfortable. Kind people provide daily food, water, shelter, and monitor their health. Caring individuals and businesses donate plywood and 2x4s so volunteers can build warm dry cathouses to help homeless cats survive the brutal New England winters.
History:
PawsWatch is a small group, all volunteers, who wish to improve the lives of homeless cats, and encourage spay-neuter of all cats. We began in Newport 3 years ago, and currently have about 20 active volunteers located throughout the state. We are always looking for goodhearted people to help us.
