Junior Achievement of RI

To educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business, and economics to improve the quality of their lives.

Description:
JARI is an organization which provides programs of economics education in RI classrooms in Grade Kindergarten through Grade 12. These programs are done with materials provided by JARI and presented by community volunteers who are recruited, trained, and serviced by JARI staff. Our organization reached over 9,000 students in the 2006/2007 school year. JA programs were offered in 71 schools in 21 school districts by 255 volunteers who partnered with 314 teachers.

Our materials are evaluated annually by a national evaluation agency and the teacher/volunteer participants annually rate JARI programs with an approval rate of 99%.

History:
JARI is the local chapter of an 85 year old international organization and has been a fixture in RI since 1948.

Junior Achievement was founded in 1919 by Horace Moses in Springfield, MA. The organization has 148 offices nationwide and is in 90 foreign countries.

JA demonstrates the relevance of education to students. Students explore careers and understand that the choices they make today will affect their future success in the workplace.
