Description:
We are a preschool program that primarily services low income families and their children, with program options for pregnant women and children from six weeks to five years old. Services include education, health, nutrition, social services, parent and volunteer opportunities. We do have a website, but it is updated infrequently.
History:
Head Start is a nationally funded program under the Dept. Health and Human Services. It started in 1967 as a way to give low income and disadvantaged children a "Head Start" in education by offering a free preschool program in order to get them school-ready. Over the years, this social program has branched out into services that not only provides children and their families with education and social services, but provides information regarding health & nutrition and parent and volunteer opportunities. In most Head Start & Early Head Start programs across the country, you will see that a large percentage of their staff were former Head Start parents.
