Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative
The Providence Public Library provides library services to ensure every child and adult will have an opportunity to grow intellectually, to nurture creativity, and to achieve their potential.
Description:
The Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI), offers immigrant families in Rhode Island free English as a Second Language (ESL), citizenship, and family literacy classes at the Providence, Pawtucket, Cranston, East Providence and West Warwick Public Libraries. Volunteers are needed to in the classroom to help adults learn English and prepare for the citizenship exam as well as to help in the Children's Program with homework and literacy activities for ages 3-12. History:
The Providence Public Library is a 129-year-old private library, which serves as the public library for the City of Providence, providing free information resources, education and community services through 10 neighborhood branches. Each branch tailors services and programs to neighborhood residents' unique interests and wide-ranging needs. The Library is also the state-designated Reference Resource Center, through which it serves all Rhode Islanders with educational, cultural enrichment and economic advancement opportunities.
