Volunteers of Warwick Schools
To help meet the educational needs of individual, Warwick students by working with teachers and principals to recruit, train and coordinate appropriate volunteers who can help meet those needs. "VOWS" may be: Parents, Grandparents, Retired Persons, College or High School Students, Business People, Community Leaders or Interested Citizens. VOWS may help our school students in the following ways: TUTORING, PRESCHOOL AND KINDERGARTEN DEVELOPMENTAL SCREENING, "KIDS ON THE BLOCK" PUPPETEERS, LIBRARY OR MEDIA ASSISTANTS, COMPUTER ASSISTANTS, "HEADS UP", BULLY-PREVENTION VOLUNTEERS, MATH OR READING HELPERS, ETC.
Description:
The Volunteers of Warwick Schools (VOWS) recruits, coordinates and trains volunteers for teacher-requested, teacher-supervised activities within elementary schools to assist with the educational needs of students. It operates during school hours from September through June, holding some special, family events during holidays and/or evenings. All volunteers are approved by and are accountable to the Principal of the elementary schools and the VOWS' Director.
History:
VOWS was organized in 1973 and incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1975 to be the Warwick Public Schools' centrally directed, district-wide school volunteer management system. The Program was created with the cooperation and encouragement of the Superintendent of Schools and is endorsed by the Warwick School Committee.

From route 95N take exit 10 and turn left onto Route 117 West (Centerville Road), or from Route 95S take exit 10B/West Warwick to Route 117 West (Centerville Road). Follow to traffic light at the entrance to the "Toll Gate Educational Complex". Turn right and follow the driveway up the hill and all the way to the end of the road, crossing through two intersections with stop signs along the way. (At the second stop sign, the Warwick area Career and Technical Center and Toll Gate High School will be visible on the right.) At the end of the driveway is the parking lot for Drum Rock Early Childhood Center. The entrance to the facility is around the front of the building, to the right of the parking lot. |
