Description:
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is the world's largest voluntary health organization dedicated to funding blood cancer research, education, and patient services. Local programs include patient education programs, Information Resource Center (accessible by phone for patients and healthcare professionals to gather information; staffed by professional social workers and nurses Mon.-Fri. 9 am.-6 pm. 800-955-4572), Family support groups, and patient financial aid. History:
Since its founding in 1949, the Society has invested more than $600 million for research specifically targeting blood cancers. The need for assistance is crucial. More than 894,000 Americans have leukemia, lymphoma and myeloma. Every five minutes, someone new is diagnosed. Every 10 minutes someone dies. As a nonprofit, LLS relies on the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations to fund its lifesaving research and patient information and support programs. LLS meets the Better Business Bureau standards for charitable accountability.
