Volunteers in Newport Education
Provides volunteers throughout the school year for educational incentive programs as well as individual tutoring. VINE is a non-profit organization which provides tutors, mentors and volunteers with teacher and administration requests.
Description:
VINE provides volunteers from the community, such as business, seniors, retirees, college students, military, parents and grandparents. VINE initiates searches for tutors and mentors in basics, and also for the educational incentive programs such as Books & Beyond, Reading is Fundamental, Cops and Books, ArtSmart, Power Lunch Program, Color Me Safe, Color Me Proud, etc. All requests for help come from teacher referral.
History:
Volunteers In Newport Education was founded in 1973 by a small group of women who wished to make a formalized volunteer organization in the Newport schools. This was incorporated and passed by the Newport School Committee and is now located in all of the Newport schools offering volunteers in many different capacities as requested by administration and teachers.
