The mission of the Newport Public School System, in partnership with students, families, and the community is to provide a challenging education with appropriate support so that all students will possess the knowledge, skills, and character essential to productive citizenship,life-long learning, and the ability to adapt in a rapidly changing world.

History:
Newport Public Schools opened its doors to the children of Newport on May 21, 1827, with the purpose of providing free public education.
