Laymen In North Kingstown Schools (LINKS)
LINKS is a network of programs organized to provide educational resources and classroom/individual support to help enrich the educational experiences of the children of the NK Schools in an effort to better prepare them for life's challenges and career choices.
Description:
LINKS works to place parent and community volunteers in the NK Schools. Volunteers provide tutoring, classroom assistance, and various levels of educational support. Through the Parent Teacher Resource Center, volunteers create visual and hands-on materials for the classroom. The NK Business Education Partnership unites business with the schools through speakers, internships, job shadowing, field trips, career planning, and mentors. The NK Mentoring Program matches adults with children who would benefit from positive adult attention.
History:
LINKS was created as a non-profit to oversee volunteerism in the North Kingstown Schools. This multi-faceted program is 36 years old and continues to grow in its services and programs for teachers, students, parents, and families. LINKS volunteers support the school population at many different levels.
