Description:
Celebrating "Ten Years" 1999 to 2009. The mission provides a number of vital human services to the poor and needy of our community on a daily basis. We currently serve dinner seven nights a week (approx. 6,500 hot meals each month), we provide overnight safe shelter for homeless men (50 to 80, 7 nights per week)and for women (15 to 20 7 nights per week), a food pantry , clothing room ), education and career center, and a one-year discipleship program for homeless men with alcohol and drug addictions. Each of these services provides for specific needs of the community we serve.
History:
The Mission was founded in October of 1998 to offer a place where the urban poor of our community could come and have their physical, emotional and rehabilitative needs met. This has been achieved through a total faith-based ministry that receives no government or direct taxpayer support. The Mission was a direct result of the vision of other mission directors in the northeastern part of the country to establish a gospel rescue mission in every state in the New England area. The first of these was Bridgeport, Connecticut, which was started in 1994. In 1998, these directors approached Sean Carew and his family about starting a work in Rhode Island. After much prayer, the Carew's accepted the call and started the process in October of 1998.
