In the event of a crisis or disaster, concerned citizens will want to offer their services to the victims, but oftentimes these volunteers do not know where to go or how to help, causing a stressful situation for both volunteers and emergency response personnel. To make this process easier for both parties, VCRI is putting a plan in place to operate Volunteer Reception Centers for the placement of these "spontaneous" or unaffiliated volunteers.
We are looking for volunteers to help us plan for and staff these Volunteer Reception Centers in the event of a disaster or public health crisis.
After an initial training, volunteers will participate in occasional practice drills and will be placed on a call list to be contacted once the order to open a Volunteer Reception Center has been announced. This opportunity is sponsored by: Volunteer Center of Rhode Island

The Volunteer Center of Rhode Island is a main artery that connects agencies across the state with volunteers. My volunteer helped me to feel needed in the work place despite my disability and has given me training that will assist me in helping other agencies in the near future. posted by Mistyblue4me on July 26, 2003 |
