Job Coach - Volunteer or Intern Internship

Volunteer Opportunity Details:

Last updated on September 9, 2009

You will have an opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of those eagerly seeking employment. Our Job Assistance Program is having great success in helping the unemployed who are poor, formerly incarcerated or homeless to find, get, and keep a job. Our clients are eager to find work but need your encouragement and some basic preparation to follow-up on our job leads.
You will work as a team on Wednesday evenings. (Option to volunteer on Monday afternoon may be available in the future.) We will train and supervise you to assist our clients one on one or in small groups in one of the following areas: setting up an email account and basic use of email for job searches and correspondence, career options, resume preparation, cover letter preparation, and interview preparation. Brief training and supervision are required of all coaches.

You do not need to be an employment expert to volunteer, but you do need:

  • a nonjudgmental attitude toward formerly incarcerated, the poor, the homeless, or those in recovery from substance abuse.
  • basic proficiency in the use of email (optional)
  • strong literacy and communication skills or college education
  • the ability to work well in teams
  • good boundaries
Brief training and supervision are required of all coaches.
