Small non-profit agency needs assistance in research and preparation of grants for community organizing in the areas of public policy change for the benefit of low-income and minority communities that are heavily impacted by cold, hunger and reductions in public support. We have won major program changes, including the introduction of school breakfast to Rhode Island schools, prevention of electric and gas utility shut-offs in home with children under 12 months old and free RIPTA bus passes for seniors. Currently, we are focuson making energy affordable to low-income consumers facing utility shut-offs via legislation for affordable payments and increased weatherization of Section 8 rental housing stock. and increasing participation in two of the most effective programs designed to prevent hunger: USDA funded food stamps and school breakfast programs. The volunteer will be responsible for locating appropriate grant opportunities, proposal idea discussions with staff and grant application writing to prepare for final electronic filing prior to deadline. Creativity of ideas that mesh with agency mission & vision encouraged. Strong writing, typing and research skills required. Ability to use Word and Excel software and conduct internet research. This opportunity is sponsored by: George A. Wiley Center
