The Sisters of Mercy property in Cumberland offers a variety of habitats to several organisms. Fairy shrimp, wood frogs and spotted salamanders use the vernal pools for breeding. Volunteers are needed to monitor these pools for obligate and facultative species. A monthly hike to the pools throughout the year to collect data on the depth and size of the pool would add to the data currently collected. During March - May, a weekly or bi-monthly visit to the pools will provide experiences of delight as one hears wood frogs calling, observes egg masses, watches tadpoles swim about, or catches a glimpse of a fairy shrimp. Ability to hike through the woods and accepting of these challenges. Training will be provided on the identification of the organisms. This opportunity is sponsored by: New Dawn Earth Center
