GENERAL FUNCTION:

The Arts & Research Intern will work closely with the Deputy Artistic Director and other members of the WaterFire staff to prepare for and carry out WaterFire related events during the fall and/or spring semesters. The internship – which may be done for academic credit, career exploration, or service learning – will involve the intern in a variety of activities including: research associated with grants, public art, cultural collaborations, & creative fundraising strategies; preparing manuals for various aspects of the WaterFire event; updating and authoring portions of the website; preparing press materials; errand running; and various clerical and administrative tasks.

KNOW HOW

The intern should have a sincere interest in learning more about art, culture, and community through the workings of a independent, nonprofit, arts organization; be available 10-14 hours per week for a total of _10__ weeks, be prepared to help out with anything that staff would do; accept on-the-job training and supervision; be capable of generating enthusiasm; have the desire to work with a team and have good computer skills. The internship is open to any major from any college, but the understanding is that the intern be amenable to performing a wide array of tasks in order to promote the art & community vision that is WaterFire.

JOB SEGMENT

Tasks will change daily depending on the needs of the organization, but will include a variety of research, internet, and clerical work – with some hands-on physical work on site when needed.

TIME COMMITMENT

Part time; Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer terms

WHAT WILL THE INTERN GAIN FROM THIS EXPERIENCE?

The intern will be given an up-close view of the inner workings of a major nonprofit organization dedicated to the ritual of renewal in a city through the magic of art and music, water and fire. An internship at WaterFire is a very unique experience allowing interns to work side-by-side with staff and members of the community to present an amazing and moving event. Whether an intern is interested in learning more about the workings of a nonprofit, about art, theatre, music, or community, an internship at WaterFire combines it all.

A WaterFire intern will finish his or her internship with experience in many areas: nonprofit public arts administration, fundraising, event planning, and a better understanding of the intersection between art & culture and community.

Must be able to confidently take and follow direction, as well as multi-task.
Must have experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Must have excellent written and oral communication skills.
Must work well independently and with others.
Access to a car and a valid driver’s license are preferable.
