Providence Emergency Management- ARC Shelter Team Volunteer Disaster & Crisis Response Opportunities Family Friendly Teen Opportunities Member Agencies

Last updated on August 27, 2008

Providence EMA in partnership with the RI chapter of the American Red Cross, is training volunteers for disaster relief. In the event of a city wide disaster or crisis, Providence would need over 400 trained volunteers to operate emergency shelters, currently we have less than 100 trained volunteers. We need your help to insure that Providence is prepared to respond to and recover from a crisis or disaster.

There are many positions available within emergency shelters, we will tailor a job position to you. We need people with all skills, training and education levels during a disaster. As a part of your volunteer duties, you will be required to aid in training and recruiting other volunteers.

Training is FREE and offered at various times of the year. Our trainings are ongoing, please call for training dates and times. Attendance at a certain number of trainings is required for certification.

Youth ages 11-17 can train and volunteer with their parents while teens age 18+ can get involved on their own.

There is also a 21 hour training course that includes CPR & First Aid, introduction to disaster services, mass care, shelter operations and a live simulation conducted at a shelter site with the local police and fire department.
