We are pleased to offer volunteers interested in serving on local nonprofit Boards of Directors a new and improved board matching service. Although you may have filled out a volunteer profile when you registered, in order to match you to an appropriate Board position, we need to find out a little more about you. Therefore, we ask you to fill out a Prospective Board Member Profile. Board membership is a very serious commitment. Most Boards of Directors will require you to attend monthly meetings, serve on active committees within an organization, and assist in the fundraising effort (including making your own gift). A Board Member has the responsibility to help set the strategic direction of an organization and ensure its fiscal solvency. People of all different ages (including youth!), abilities and backgrounds serve on Boards of Directors. If you have the interest, and the time availability, we encourage you to apply to become a Board Member of an organization that speaks to your personal values and interests. Each nonprofit organization has its own "nominating process." Filling out an application is only the first step in becoming a Board Member. Some organizations have a formal interview process, some require that prospective board members volunteer at the agency for a certain length of time initially, and others are less formal. We encourage you to contact the organizations you are interested in becoming a board member of for more information about what the nominating process entails, and the specific requirements of a board member at that organization.
