Social Entrepreneur Fellowship For College-Age Youth Leaders

RSS XML FeedBackground Active Apr 14, 2006 to Jun 15, 2006

Many young leaders want to run a non-profit organization, and they bring passion, commitment, work ethic, and confidence to the task.   However, these qualities are not enough.  They also need sales and strategy skills, experience in non-profit management, and a professional network.

To provide the resources these leaders need to succeed, City Year Rhode Island will offer four talented leaders its prestigious Social Entrepreneur Fellowship, beginning in July 2006.  These leaders will:

* receive over 250 hours of intensive training per year over two years in leadership development, including persuasive communication, management of a diverse team, community assessment, and high-performance execution

* develop a personal leadership plan based on self-assessment tools

* practice leadership skills by leading a team of corps members

* build a professional network of political, business, and community leaders

* serve on a local non-profit board

* leverage the City Year network to develop their own strong board

* develop business experience during a paid four-week internship at a leading national company between the first and second year

* receive up to $9,450 in educational awards, $4725 in additional awards, a living stipend, and health benefits

City Year Rhode Island is an intensive leadership academy for young people who want to make a difference in their community.   The young adults in our diverse corps dedicate a year of their lives to engage children in social issues and inspire them to take action.  During the year, 40 corps members run leadership programs during school, after school, on Saturdays, and during school vacations.  Students learn critical skills as they tackle challenging issues, such as bullying, racism, and hunger.   Founded in 1993, City Year Rhode Island is one of seventeen City Year sites across the world, including new programs in South Africa and Louisiana.  More information about City Year and the City Year Rhode Island Social Entrepreneur Fellowship can be found at http://www.cityyear.org/rhode_island.
