Capitol Region RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), a program of the Volunteer Center of RI, will be introducing a third computer literacy class in January 2005 at three sites, the Salvatore Mancini RAC in North Providence, the Johnston Senior Center in Johnston and an intergenerational mentoring class at the St. Martin De Porres Center in Providence. The Legacy class will explore how to research family histories, locate relatives that have long been forgotten in the family stories, and write a memoir of times long gone in the student's life. Additionally, our students will learn how to use a scanner and a CD burner in this class. Students that register for this class must have previously attended our first two classes in computer literacy, Basic I and II. Basic I is designed to take the "Fear" out of computers for the senior students, Basic II currently is a overview of the EXCEL program but in the future, the class will be redesigned for an upper level overview of the MS Word program. These classes are open to seniors 55 years and older at senior and community centers located in the cities of Providence, North Providence and Johnston at select locations.
