Volunteer Opportunities abound at Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence

RSS XML FeedBackground Active Mar 1, 2005 to Mar 31, 2005

Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence's mission is to enhance the quality of life for youth, with particular emphasis on those ages 6 to 18 who live in neighborhoods of limited resources, through structured educational, health, social, physical, vocational, guidance, and character development services conducted in safe havens by nurturing staff and volunteers.

Boys & Girls Clubs of Providence follows Boys & Girls Clubs of America's program strategies: a mix of one-on-one, small group, and large group/drop-in services and activities in five disciplines:

  • Character and leadership development - empowering youth to support and influence their Club and community, sustain meaningful relationships with others, develop a positive-self-image, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others' cultural identities.
  • Education and career development - enabling youth to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and embrace technology to achieve success in careers.
  • Health and life skills - developing young people's capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, help set personal goals, and live successfully as self-sufficient adults.
  • The arts - enabling youth to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciate the visual arts, crafts, performing arts, and creative writing.
  • Sports, fitness, and recreation - developing youth fitness routines, encouraging positive use of leisure time and skills for stress management, as well as building appreciative of the environment, and enhancing social skills.

Programs are offered from close of school to 9 p.m., Monday through Friday and from noon to 5 p.m., Saturdays during the school year. In the summer, Clubs are open from noon to 5 p.m.
