AmeriCares Free Clinics, a wholly owned subsidiary of AmeriCares, was established to serve the medical needs of the low income uninsured. The mission is to provide free quality health care to Connecticut’s low-income uninsured population while protecting each patient’s sense of dignity and self-respect.

The clinics are staffed by volunteer doctors and nurses and draw on the resources of community hospitals, laboratories, specialists and pharmacies to ensure full, no-cost access to a comprehensive health care delivery system. Each clinic is designed to complement existing services, tailored to meet the specific needs in the community. Health services valued at more than $15 million have been delivered to date through the AmeriCares Free Clinics network.
The delivery of high-quality health care is our primary goal. By targeting the uninsured, AmeriCares Free Clinics do not compete with the private sector but rather complements existing community resources. The AmeriCares Free Clinics have become a source of pride and enrichment to the individual volunteers and community at large.

Description:
AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury:
Since its first clinic session on January 15, 1997, the AmeriCares Free Clinic of Danbury has been operating at full capacity. More than 5,300 patients have made more than 20,200 clinic visits. A continuity care clinic was established in June 1997 and a specialty clinic for endocrinology was added in November 1998. Through an unprecedented relationship with Danbury Hospital, Danbury Radiology Associates, Danbury Office of Physician Services and community-based specialists, a full range of laboratory, diagnostic and consultative services are available at no cost to the patient. Through a generous grant from the Boehringer Ingelheim Cares Foundation utilizing the AmeriCares mobile unit, the clinic's capacity has expanded to care for residents in Bethel, Brookfield and New Milford. Laboratory and diagnostic services are provided by New Milford Hospital. The total value of medical care delivered exceeds $6.4 million, averaging upwards of $106,000 a month.
