Danbury Music Centre
The mission of the Danbury Music Centre is to provide opportunities for community musicians to perform in orchestras, choruses, and other ensembles under professional direction. Most performances are presented free of charge for the enjoyment of the people of the greater Danbury area.
Description:
The Danbury Music Centre is the parent organization of the Danbury Symphony Orchestra, Danbury Community Orchestra, Danbury Concert Chorus, and Danbury Preparatory String Orchestra. Annually the DMC presents many orchestra and chorus concerts, as well as a recital series, the Nutcracker Ballet, and Messiah. In the summers, the DMC offers summer enrichment music programs for children, teens, and adults. The groups of the DMC rehearse and perform classical masterworks as well as modern compositions.
History:
The Danbury Music Centre was founded by Donald Tweedy in 1935. From its inception, it has provided opportunities for adult and student musicians, of varying skill levels, to perform masterworks under professional direction. It also provides opportunities for people in the greater Danbury area to enjoy high quality concerts with most concerts being admission free to the general public.
