Agency Details:
Community Culinary School Of Northwestern CT
The Community Culinary School of Northwestern CT is a job training and placement program for unemployed and underemployed adults looking to work in the food service industry. We seek to empower participants, qualifying them for jobs that earn a living wage in the food service industry and helping to feed the community while doing so.
Description:
The CCSNCT offers a twelve week daytime training program that is comprised of classroom and kitchen training plus an internship experience and aid in finding a permanent job. Students complete ServSafe certification for safe food handling. Life skills and job seeking content round out the curriculum. Staff consists of a Program Director/Chef Instructor and a full time Chef Instructor, both of whom are Culinary Institute graduates. In addition, a case manager works with students to overcome potential barriers to employment. The program is funded through grants, donations, fundraising and a growing catering business that students actively participate in. Additionally, food is prepared and distributed through the New Milford Food Bank of New Milford Social Services, helping over 100 low-income households weekly.
History:
The CCSNCT opened its doors to the first class of students in August 2007 after about one year of planning and program development. It was created as a means to enable motivated, economically at-risk persons to gain skills and secure jobs with growth potential. Currently running its third session, the School is in the process of filing for independent charitable status with the IRS. The School is located at St. John's Episcopal Church on the New Milford green. The administrative office is within New Milford Social Services.
