To work in partnership with first-time parents facing challenges of parenthood by enhancing their strengths, providing education and creating community connections.

Description:
we are a non-profit, education based program whose foundation is child abuse/neglect prevention. we are free, confidential and a voluntary service available to all first time parents, whether at risk for abuse/neglect or not. we offer home visitation, phone support and parenting/focus groups for families who are prenatal or postpartum. we offer this service for families until the child is 5 years of age. Our activities for volunteers include: making phone calls to new first time parents in a supportive and kind manner, offering a good listening ear, a non-judgemental state of mind and a good sense of local resources to offer the families (these resources will be provided). Also, to help with watching and helping with the care of children (ages infant to 5 years) whose parents may be participating in the parenting/focus groups. Several events throughout the year open to the community and public where our program is offered to the community in a family-fun-filled event. volunteers would be recruited for all and any of the above.

History:
the Nurturing Families Network (NFN) has been in existence since the original formation of the Healthy Families Network established by the Connecticut Children's Trust Fund in 1998. (NFN) became its own entity in 2003 and has over 40 agencies covering all birthing hospitals in the state of Connecticut.
