WeCAHR
WeCAHR advocates for the civil and human rights of people with disabilities. We are an association of families and children building communities that respect and welcome people. We educate the public consciousness and promote the understanding of human similarities.
Description:
WeCAHR Community Advocates provide assistance to children and adults with developmental disabilities and their families. We help people get the services and supports they need to live and work successfully and safely in their community. WeCAHR offers short-term advocacy assistance, and direct advocacy representation. WeCAHR supports and advises adults in the self advocacy movement known as People First to learn how to advocate for themselves. Our parent trainers teach parents how to become effective advocates for their children in special education. Advocates also attend school meetings with parents of children that receive special education services.
History:
WeCAHR was created by parents and professionals who recognized the need for an independent group to act as a "watchdog" to ensure that children and adults were receiving the services they needed. Our advocacy efforts enhance and improve consumer utilization of community services.
