The following are some of the opportunities available for volunteers at Green Chimneys:

Visiting Sunday Volunteer: Spend quality time with a child who has no family resources. Enjoy group activities with the child at a monthly visiting Sunday. Must be at least 21 years old. Reading Tutor: Work one-on-one with a student to help him or her with reading skills. Two mornings a week preferred. Experience required.

Mentor: The mentoring program uses adult volunteers to commit to supporting, guiding, and being a friend to a young person for a period of at least one year. By becoming part of the social network of adults and community members who care about the youth, the mentor can help youth develop and reach positive academic, career, and personal goals.

Language Enrichment Volunteer: Talk and interact with a student three times a week for a half-hour. Activities include playing games, reading and engaging in conversation. Some experience required.

Library Aid: Assist librarian with card cataloging, typing, etc. No special time frame but must be consistent.

Nature's Nursery Public Day Care Program: Volunteers are needed for all day care and before- and after-school care. Morning hours are 7:30 a.m. to noon, and afternoon hours are noon to 6 p.m. Choose your days and times to help. Must be at least 18 years old.

Farm and Wildlife Conservation Center: If you like animals, you’ll love Green Chimneys Farm & Wildlife Conservation Center. There are more than 350 animals to care for daily. Help is always needed and appreciated. Weekend volunteer positions are also available for guides to give farm tours to the public. Must be at least 18 years old.

Therapeutic Riding: Sidewalkers and leaders are needed for horseback-riding program with physically and mentally challenged individuals. Weekday evenings from 4 to 7 p.m. and some Saturday mornings and afternoons. Must be at least 18 years old.

Horticulture Assistant: Green thumbs are desperately needed to assist with production gardens and flowerbeds. Must be 18 years old. Outdoor Education Center: Outdoors programs are offered to schools and the community. Volunteers are needed for assistance with programs, maintenance and yard work. Must be at least 18 years old.
Food Services: Help as a utility worker, serving, cleaning, sweeping, mopping and washing dishes or as a baker (must have experience). Cooks are also needed to cook ethnic cuisine for 300 people (Asian, Latin, Soul Food, etc.). Must be at least 18 years old.

Administrative Services: Varied opportunities including clerical assistance, photography, videography, marketing and mass mailing. Good organizational skills needed. Computer skills helpful. Must be at least 18 years old. Work in administrative offices, including Fund Development, Business Office Human Resources.
