CLICC (Connecting through Literacy Inmates, Children and Caregivers) seeks volunteers for a six-month pilot project designed to strengthen family bonds between incarcerated parents and their children. The parents and their children read books and correspond about the characters and the lessons they've learned. Mentors who work with parents meet once a week with them at the federal prison in Danbury. Mentors who work with children communicate about once a week with them through the Internet, using a special secure software program. Prison volunteers need to complete one three-hour training at the prison in Danbury and also a three-hour CLICC curriculum training which will be held in Danbury. They must be able to visit the prison once a week at an established time. The children's mentors must have access to a computer and complete a three-hour curriculum training held in Danbury. In both cases, volunteers must enjoy working with people. A passion for literacy helps! This opportunity is sponsored by: Connecticut Appleseed
