Dog Socializer: Socialization is necessary as the more our animals are socialized the more quickly they find homes. The responsibilities of a dog socializer are to: ensure that the animal has adequate food, water, and bedding; take the animal out of their cage or crate for outside exercise; help with obedience training, some cleaning and grooming; help the animal get used to different noises through interaction; and help the animal learn to participate in activities. If possible, we ask that you commit to a specific date and time on a weekly basis as this help us ensure appropriate coverage on each shift.
Requirements: Volunteers must be 18 years or older and attend a volunteer orientation. It is important for volunteers to be able to be able to bend and kneel in order to safely remove dogs from their cages. Dog Socializers must also be able to follow and read directions, perform responsibilities independently, and to have the ability to interact with the public. Volunteers must attend a General Orientation(See our website for information www.daws.org), and attend a dog handling class prior to beginning volunteer service.
