Bereavement Volunteers - Training September 15 and 16

Bereavement Volunteers serve as support to caregivers after the death of a loved one. They make phone calls or visits to individuals following a loss of a loved one to provide emotional support and connection. They may assist a Regional Hospice facilitator at a group support meeting. Bereavement Volunteers may also work in the office to assist with in correspondence the bereaved during the first year of recovery from their loss.

Bereavement Volunteers must first complete Bereavement Support Training, provided by Regional Hospice. Volunteers must be emotionally mature and personally stable. They must have good listening skills, the ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality concerning patients and families, the ability to accept people as they are without regard to background of beliefs, access to telephone and transportation, flexibility and a sense of humor, and be at least 18 years of age. Current references must be provided and a criminal background check will be performed.

 Regional Hospice of Western CT is located at 405 Main Street in Danbury Connecticut. It is at the intersection of Main Street and North Street. RH is easily accessible from Interstate 84, exit 5. Eastbound - take exit 5 and go straight at stop sign. At traffic light, turn right onto Main Street. RH is immediately on the left after the Dunkin Donuts. From Interstate 84, westbound, take exit 5. At traffic light at end of exit ramp, turn right at light. Go straight through next traffic light past Dunkin Donuts and turn left into Regional Hospice parking lot.
