The American Liver Foundation leads the fight against liver disease in its many forms. We promote overall liver wellness, and provide education, support, advocacy and research on behalf of the over 30 million Americans affected by liver disease.

Description:
We envision a day when liver disease is seldom found, thanks to public awareness of liver health, when it is easily cured thanks to medical advances; and when liver transplants are a thing of the past. To do so we will educate the general public, health care professionals, patients and the media, advocate for increased research in liver disease' and award research grants to encourage young physicians and scientist to build careers in the field.

It is important to know our key messages.

A healthy liver performs hundreds of critical tasks each day and is essential to a healthy life.

Liver disease is one of the top ten causes of death in the US.

One in ten Americans will be affected by liver disease.

Many liver diseases are preventable through greater public awareness. Many more are treatable if detected early.

History:
The American Liver Foundation and it's 25 chapters nationwide have provided more than twenty million dollars in funding for liver health research, drawn countless researchers and physicians to the field of liver health, and served as a tireless advocate for increased funding and public awareness.

The Connecticut chapter has raised more than a half a million dollars to benefit our programs including support groups, a speakers bureau, and educational community outreach events. Our success is due to the participation of Connecticut’s most outstanding community members.
