Bruce Museum

The Bruce Museum promotes the understanding and appreciation of Art and Science to enrich the lives of all people.
Meet new people and learn while setting up and serving refreshments at the Museum's lectures, receptions, art teas and other special events including Annual Art/Crafts Festivals. Commitment is typically 3-4 hours on the required day or evening.

Description:
The Bruce Museum is an educational institution which, through its varied exhibitions and collections in the arts and sciences, provides programs for diverse audiences.

In 1998 the Bruce Museum received accreditation from the American Association of Museums, an honor granted to fewer than 5% of all museums.
Drawing from its own collection, from loans and from traveling exhibitions, the Museum hosts approximately 16 exhibitions per year.

History:
The Museum was originally built as a private home in 1853. Robert Moffat Bruce (1822-1908), a wealthy textile merchant and member of the New York Cotton Exchange, bought the house and property in 1858.
In 1908, Robert Bruce bequeathed his home to the Town of Greenwich and stipulated that it be used "as a Natural History, Historical and Art Museum, for the use and benefit of the public."
