The mission of this National Historic Landmark, a unique architectural treasure, is to enrich the community and the region through public programs and preservation activities illustrating our nation's 19th century heritage and its significance to our own and future times.

Description:
Itis a cultural and educational resource and provides visitors with the unique opportunity to experience life at the dawn of America's Gilded Age.It provides informed, interpretive experiences, conducting tours of on-going restoration and enriching educational and cultural opportunities through changing historical exhibits, and classroom and assembly spaces for lectures and concerts.

History:
Saved from demolition by concerned citizens and the Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk, the mansion then became the property of the City of Norwalk. It was named a National Historic Landmark in the 1960's and state and other funds have helped to restore the magnificent rooms and reclaim original furnishings. The museum is poised for a re-birth and plans to attract many new visitors and, hopefully, interested residents to join their core of dedicated volunteers.
